River Source Outfitters is a small, family-owned operation.  We believe, like John Muir and Henry David Thoreau, that in Wilderness and Wild Places lies the hope for humanity.  We believe that by sharing our love for wild places the experiences we facilitate will work as catalysts to ignite a passion and perhaps inspire our clients to learn more about the natural world, and possibly even work to protect National Parks and Designated Wilderness Areas around the world.

The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is a great place to practice and share our philosophy, because it provides a year around awe-inspiring venue for the natural world.

 Jason Matthews is the founder and owner of River Source. He has been a professional wilderness guide, outdoor educator, and  padling instructor for the past fifteen years. He has traveled from the Equator to the Arctic Circle in pursuit of wilderness adventure, and has guided expeditions by paddle, dog-sled, and horseback throughout the Rocky Mountains. His love for wild places, quirky sense of humor, and never ending enthusiasm will make your trip the vacation of a lifetime.

Jason has worked as an instructor for the Voyageur Outward Bound School, Ely, MN and Montana State University-Bozeman, and as a columnist for RIVER magazine. His trips focus on safety, environmental awareness, skills development, and FUN! email him: kayakerjsm@aol.com

 Catherine Matthews is our reservation specialist, trip photographer, and outdoor education curriculum developer. She has a masters degree in Education from Montana State University and the outfitting/guiding business runs deep in her blood, as both her father and husband are professional guides.  She can be found in the summer on the phone, behind the wheel of the van, or climbing the cliffs of Yankee Jim Canyon snapping photos.  In the winter she is a Special Education teacher. She lives in the mountains near Yellowstone Park with her husband and 20 crazed sled dogs.

Noah Matthews is a third generation Montanan, and at six months old is already leading a life of adventure!  He can frequently be found stuffed in a pack on his mother or father's back.  He loves feeding sled dogs, visiting Yellowstone Park and just hanging out with the other guides!  Don't be surprised when you meet him on one of our trips!
